The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Rander Peña, stated that “today Latin America has won a great victory”, referring to the statement issued by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in which he categorically rejects the deployment of American warships in Caribbean waters.
In the letter presented by the CELAC countries, they condemned the American interventionist stance, which, according to the text, represents a threat to peace in the region.
In this regard, the also Deputy Minister for Latin America, stressed that this decision is a firm support that enhances the country's sovereignty.
Peña also explained that the statement highlights the US military deployment as “a violation of the fundamental principles established in two key agreements for the region.”
Among these principles, the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and the 1967 Treaty of Tlatelolco stand out.
Peña confirmed that this strong statement demonstrates the unity of the CELAC countries in the defense of their sovereignty and regional peace, in a context of growing tensions and threats to stability.
