The number of people killed by a flood in the Bhote Koshi basin between Nepal and China rises to 676

The authorities of Nepal and China confirmed this Saturday a total of 676 deaths after Wednesday's flood, which originated in the upper basin of the Bhote Koshi River, on the border between the two countries, and moved violently downstream, devastating several Nepalese districts to its confluence with the Trishuli River.

Of those killed, 669 bodies were recovered in Nepalese territory, with the majority located in the southern districts of Chitwan (248) and East Nawalparasi (158). To this figure are added the 7 deaths reported by China in the Tibetan county of Gyirong. Nearly three thousand people remain missing on both sides of the border, reported the EFE agency.

The Nepalese Government requested international assistance to reinforce forensic work and the deployment of technical equipment in the hydroelectric power plants in the basin, where it is feared that hundreds of workers will remain trapped.
