Representatives of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) made a floral offering this Tuesday before the sarcophagus that holds the mortal remains of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the signing of the Panama Convention, through which the multilateral organization was created on October 17, 1975.

The ceremony, held at the Mausoleum of the Father of the Fatherland, in the National Pantheon of Caracas, was led by the permanent secretary of SELA, Ambassador Lesly David, and the Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Joaquín Pérez Ay; accompanied by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Venezuela.

Diplomatic authorities paid the necessary honors to the Liberator and signed the minutes, on a key date to reaffirm their commitment to integration, intraregional cooperation and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Since its founding in 1975, through the signing of the Panama Convention, SELA has established itself as a space for strategic articulation to promote consensus among its Member States.

Recently, within the framework of the 41st Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), held in the Dominican Republic, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Félix Plasencia González, held a meeting with Secretary David, with the objective of deepening regional cooperation issues in strategic areas for the development of the South American nation.

During this meeting, both representatives addressed fields of the Venezuelan economy, such as productive diversification, the promotion of non-traditional exports, economic integration, energy security and the strengthening of national capacities.
