2026-2027 cotton planting plan begins in the Orinoco to boost the textile industry

More than 500 producers joined the new 2026-2027 cotton planting and harvesting cycle, whose central purpose is to strengthen the Venezuelan textile industry and consolidate the strategic replacement of commercial imports.

The land prioritized for this initial deployment corresponds to Las Vegas del Rio Orinoco, where it is planned to reach a total area of 3,200 productive hectares under the direct supervision of the country's competent agricultural and food authorities. This was reported by the Ministry of Productive Agriculture and Lands, in a press release.

Of the total area estimated for this season, the Algodones del Orinoco Social Property Company will manage 400 hectares, while the rest of the land will be under the responsibility of the producers of the Guárico and Apure axis.

During an assembly held at the headquarters of the aforementioned company located in Cabrota, the Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Vladímir Padrino López, valued the historical work and the ancestral knowledge of the peasantry.

The senior official highlighted the existence of an infrastructure with optimal installed capacity to efficiently process all the fiber that will yield the next harvest for the direct benefit of the nation's economic development.

Accompanied by Governor Donald Donaire, the holder of the agricultural portfolio recalled that the crop has been maintained in an artisanal way in the area, so it is essential to move towards a self-sufficient agro-industrial model.

During their speech, the authorities emphasized the versatile nature of this non-food category, which is extremely useful not only for fabrics, but also for pharmaceutical laboratories and animal feed.

Minister Vladímir Padrino López assured that the nation will emerge as a power in this area thanks to collective competition and the strategic guidelines outlined by President Delcy Rodríguez.

To close the launch day, supplies and work supplies were delivered to support the daily work of the rural men and women participating in the project.
