The President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, during the presentation of the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award 2026, asserted that communication must be the center of the country's democratic coexistence.

“From the program of democratic coexistence and peace, I have called for communication to be at the service of coexistence, tolerance, and the right to respect those who think differently or are different,” stressed the president at an official ceremony held this Wednesday afternoon at the facilities of the Miraflores Palace.

In his speech, he said that fascism and extremism came to dominate private media, but social networks and community media broke that hegemony.

“Democracy is “invincible” we don't have technological-military superiority, but we have a moral superiority, which is the democratic exercise of choosing in communities and communes to decide deeply about their daily lives, destiny, needs, community, youth,” said the national president.

Although the commemoration of National Journalism Day is traditionally held every June 27, the award's board decided to postpone the solemn ceremony until September 16 as a result of the emergency caused by the earthquakes.
