CONATEL held a hearing to evaluate new parameters for the quality of Internet services

The National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) held a public hearing this Tuesday to analyze the Administrative Order Project on Internet Service Quality Parameters, with the participation of operators, subscribers and the general public.

According to information from CONATEL, the instrument, comprised of 11 articles, establishes mandatory minimum criteria related to performance, continuity of service and complaint handling. During the day, comments and proposals were received on the articles, as well as on its transitory and final provisions.

In this regard, the general director of CONATEL, Enrique Quintana, stressed the need to establish regulations that contribute to the balanced development of the telecommunications sector and guarantee better conditions for users.

“This sector goes hand in hand with the regulator and the regulator establishes the rules that allow us all to develop and that guarantee the quality of services for our users, for our people,” he said.

The project contemplates minimum thresholds for technical indicators applicable to the different technologies used in the provision of fixed Internet service, including optical fiber, fiber-coaxial hybrid systems, copper pair, wireless networks and fifth-generation Fixed Wireless Access (FWA 5G) systems.

Quintana also highlighted the importance of the participation of different actors in the sector to achieve established quality standards. “The sum of each and every one of the efforts of those who make up this ecosystem will allow us to achieve quality of service. It's a matter of a greater effort, of adding the necessary synergy so that Venezuela can go to conquer new spaces, ” he stressed.

The hearing is part of the process initiated in June with the public consultation and is carried out in accordance with the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Organic Law on Telecommunications and the Organic Law of Public Administration. The proposal seeks to promote connectivity and for subscribers to receive a service in accordance with the contracted conditions.
