Debris collection in La Guaira due to earthquakes will be extended for a year

The classification, shredding and recycling of debris in the state of La Guaira, generated by the double earthquake of June 24, will last for a year, said the Minister of Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez.

“We estimate that it can be working, as we have been working together, for about a year of work, sorting, shredding, to first reduce the volume,” said the minister.

In addition, in statements collected by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), Minister Rodríguez indicated that they have collected about two million 100 thousand tons, according to the latest estimates made by the UNDP.

Rodríguez highlighted that they have been working in the affected areas for 57 days and noted that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) works together with the ministry, the Vice Presidency of Public Works and Services and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).

The head of Ecosocialism added that the process involves reducing the volume of materials by crushing to reduce the volume of materials occupied by about 80%.

On the other hand, the official stressed that, so far, more than 500 thousand tons have been moved and more than 40 thousand tons crushed, “so we are going to a redoubled pace in less than two months.”
