Deputy Rivas: Agreement between Venezuela and India seeks to modernize the country's network of parks and zoos

The deputy to the National Assembly (AN) and president of the Permanent Commission on Ecosocialism, Oliver Rivas, explained that the agreement between Venezuela and India seeks to be able to advise and guide technical personnel, as well as to adjust and modernize the network of national parks and zoos, so that they are exhibition centers and also centers for the care, conservation, research, rehabilitation and reproduction of species.

In an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), he indicated that this memorandum of understanding seeks to transform the approach to working in zoos, which in the first phase hopes to improve that of Caricuao and that of El Pinar.

He also highlighted the words of the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, who stated that in the face of the climate emergency, ecological education and ecosocialism must be deepened, that is, “in some way these agreements rediscover a Western development model.”

“These are initiatives that put Venezuela at the forefront of international environmental law, environmental diplomacy and that should fill us with pride,” he said.

Referring to the Law Approving the Framework Agreement for the Establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), which promotes the conservation of wildlife, such as big cats, he stressed that the agreement recognizes at least seven of them, including the puma, jaguar, leopard, tiger, lion, cheetah, and Venezuela has at least two of them.

He stressed that Venezuela has protection of its territory, at least 58% of the territory are ABRAE zones (Areas Under Special Administration Regime), and they have some type of special protection, “which means that they are not mercantilizable and the State establishes its measures.”
