The arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution meant the return of Venezuela's right to manage its natural resources and to give priority to its interests over transnational ones, Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez Frías said on February 17, 2008.

“The Bolivarian Revolution means the return of many things, including the return of the right of nations to their sovereignty, to manage their natural resources, to have a preponderance of the interests of a nation over transnational interests and not the other way around as imperialism managed to impose it in these last years of the 20th century. That is why we cannot fail, because the future of these sister countries also depends on our triumph. It must be said that when the empire attacks Venezuela, it is also attacking countless peoples in Latin America and other parts of the world,” said Chávez from Monagas state.
