Government of Mexico delivers Economic Package 2027 reporting historic reduction in poverty

The Government of Mexico submitted to the Congress of the Union the draft Economic Package for fiscal year 2027, highlighting the consolidation of redistributive policy and structural advances in the face of social inequality as axes of the economic model.

During the official presentation in the Chamber of Deputies, the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Edgar Amador Zamora, pondered the impact of social spending on the quality of life of Mexican families, noting that “the results of the Fourth Transformation strategy are clear: between 2018 and 2024, 13.4 million people were lifted out of poverty.”

The budget project forecasts economic growth of up to 2.5 percent of GDP and prioritizes investment in strategic areas such as public infrastructure, health and education, a sector that will have an allocation of more than 1.3 trillion pesos. In taking stock of the national productive dynamic, the owner of the treasury remarked that “unemployment is at historically low levels. Real wages continue to rise and labor poverty has fallen.”

In addition, the proposal contemplates the gradual reduction of the fiscal deficit to 3.9 percent of GDP by combating tax evasion and avoidance, ruling out tax increases or the creation of new tax burdens.

In this context, the government reaffirmed its commitment to social equity, maintaining that “this process will continue to be done strategically, without compromising the resources allocated to social programs or investment projects.”
