MinSalud and UNDP deliver infectious waste treatment module in Cojedes

The Dr. Eugenio Mariano González Padilla Hospital, located in Tinaco, Cojedes state, received a Final Treatment Module for Infectious Waste to strengthen the safe management of medical waste generated during medical care.

The delivery was carried out through a coordinated action between the Ministry of Health (MinSalud) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with international funding.

In addition, as part of the initiative, 17 members of the intrahospital staff received credentials after completing a year of training in waste management.

“We are in the state of Cojedes, accompanying the General Directorate of Environmental Health in delivering the Final Treatment Module for Infectious Waste to the hospital. This is part of the waste management project,” said Gabriel González Freites, UNDP representative in Venezuela, in statements replicated by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

For his part, Dr. Carlos Cortés Falla, also UNDP Representative in Venezuela, explained that the health management plan requires a process of behavior change, so they carried out four extended training sessions aimed at involving staff and avoiding the inadequate management of hospital waste.

Finally, Dr. Manuel Rodríguez, the entity's sole health authority, stated that the consolidation of this project represents a tangible reality at the service of the public system and society of Cojedeña.
