The Venezuelan mixed 4x100 relay won the gold medal in the debut of the event in the athletics program of the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, winning with a time of 41.87 seconds, the only record below 42 seconds in the final.

The quartet made up of Orangys Jiménez, Bryant Álamo, Alexis Nieves and Glanyernis Guerra jumped from third place in the starting meters to cross the finish line first, overcoming the low temperatures of the Argentine city, which were around 12 degrees Celsius. With this result, the team also secured a direct ticket to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.

“Despite the cold environment, we gave everything on the track, we stood up for a country that needed this joy; it's an achievement we've been working on for a long time and it finally paid off,” said Bryant Álamo, who started the relay. For his part, Alexis Nieves, third runner, explained that “this is the top competition of the year, and before arriving here we made adjustments to the previous events that led us to victory today”.

The podium was completed by Argentina in second place with 42.22 seconds and Colombia in third with 42.37. The gold medal represents number 31 for the Venezuelan delegation in Santa Fe 2026, matching the gold production achieved in Asunción 2022.

In other tests, eighteenth-century players José Maita and Ryan López advanced to the final of the 800 meters flat after completing strategic races in the qualifying rounds. The final will be played this Thursday at 8:30 in the morning, Venezuelan time.
