On December 3, 2006, Commander Hugo Chávez was re-elected by the vast majority of the Venezuelan people with 62.84% of the votes.

His loyalty to his people made him the most voted president in the history of the country at the time.

“This is the victory of love, peace and hope and of the whole of Venezuela, the victory we have obtained is unparalleled in our history,” President Chávez said in his speech from the town's balcony.
