2000: The Will of the People Rafifies Commander Chávez as President

On July 30, 2000, the people flooded the streets to go to the voting centers to elect the first president of the nascent Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where an overwhelming majority ratified their revolutionary will by electing Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez.

With 59.76% of the votes, he was elected, which meant the people's ratification of their will to carve out their revolutionary destiny, evoking the Bolivarian ideal of a free and sovereign homeland.

“A new time, a new hope (...) We have left behind the storms, the hurricane. Venezuela is rising on new foundations,” were the words of Commander Chávez.

24 years after this triumph, which sealed the people's commitment to the revolutionary path, the Fatherland stands strong to face the imperial onslaught in response to Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez's call for “unity, struggle, battle and victory”.
