2017: The Barrio Adentro Mission expanded its coverage to 100% in the country

On April 20, 2017, the Barrio Adentro Mission expanded its coverage to 100% in the country. The announcement was made by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, from the Gral/Brig Comprehensive Diagnostic Center. (AV) María Eugenia González, in Fuerte Tiuna.
“Venezuela thus becomes the second country in the world to comply with primary health care coverage with the Barrio Adentro Mission to provide free care to the Venezuelan people,” said the Head of State.
At that time, in 20 states of the country, Barrio Adentro 100% had been achieved, and by including the Capital District, and the states of Amazonas, Lara and Miranda, this goal established by the National Government was achieved.
In 2003, Commander Hugo Chávez created the Barrio Adentro Mission, in response to the medical neglect suffered by the Venezuelan people during forty years of the Fourth Republic.
During the 2020 pandemic, the mission was on the front line of combat.
