24 years ago, Commander Chávez led the 2nd OPEC Summit.

On September 26, 2000, Commander Hugo Chávez Frías welcomed delegations from the Arab Islamic world that participated in the Second Summit of Heads of State and of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held in Caracas.

The president added that before the creation of OPEC, there was an “absolutely unfair” phase of oil exploitation, marked by a model of colonial exploitation.
