26 years ago Commander Hugo Chávez visited the Great Wall of China

The Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez made his first official visit to the People's Republic of China on October 10, 1999, as part of an economic and promotional tour of the country, months after being elected President of Venezuela.

On that occasion, as part of the activities, he went to the Great Wall of China, specifically the Badaling sector, where he captured, in the guestbook, a premonitive message about the brotherhood, cooperation and exchange that would consolidate Venezuela and China in the following years.

“We have come to the Great Wall and have felt the mystical strength of a hundred centuries and of a thousand peoples, under the presence of God. We took all that with us, collected like a flower in our hearts. Towards the Real Unity of China and Venezuela!” , was the phrase set down by the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution on October 11, 1999.

Relations between Venezuela and China date back to 1974, but it was after the Commander came to power that they rose to a strategic level to move towards projects in scientific-technological, oil, financial and infrastructure matters.

During his term of office, Chávez visited Beijing and other important Chinese provinces six times to strengthen this close cooperation that was maintained during the 14 years of his administration, always based on solidarity, mutual respect, complementarity and friendship. Now, President Nicolás Maduro has ratified that line of work.
