Alirio Rodríguez was born in El Callao, Bolivar state, on April 4, 1932. He began his artistic training in 1947, at the School of Plastic Arts and Applied Arts in Caracas, from which he graduated in 1955.

Between 1950 and 1952, he attended the work sessions of the Taller Libre de Arte. In 1958 he traveled to Italy to perfect himself in the technique of ceramic stained glass; he studied in Rome and Ravena and returned to Venezuela in 1961. He is involved in the activities of the Círculo El Pez Dorado group and enters artistic teaching, as a teacher in several institutes, including: the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic Arts and the University Pedagogical Institute of Caracas, in the latter as an associate professor.

In 1982, work began on the large stained glass window in the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice, which was completed two years later, made with national technology and with the artisanal tradition of Chartres.

He received numerous awards, including: the Arturo Michelena Prize, in the room of the same name (Valencia, 1962); Official Painting Prize at the last edition of the Venezuelan Art Salon (1969); first prize at the Salon of Plastic Arts in Venezuela, Museum of Fine Arts (MBA) (1974); Alejandro Otero Award, Government of the Bolivar State; and Renaissance des Arts Award, Paris, 1981. He also represented Venezuela at the XXXVII Venice International Art Biennial.
