In order to achieve a university education, the students of the “Senderos del Sur Noel Corona” Commune, in Biruaca and “Lanceros de Mi Patria” , in San Fernando, in the state of Apure, will hold meetings to formalize their application to the National University of the Communes (UNACOM).
This step marks a milestone in the state, which promotes the democratization of knowledge and allows popular knowledge to be articulated with academic training without the need for community members to migrate to urban centers.
To date, 401 community members from 22 communes have expressed their intention to start studies. This number is expected to rise to 700 applicants in the coming days, reflecting enthusiasm for this new educational modality.
In this sense, the postulate of the Commune “Senderos del Sur Noel Corona”, Jackeline Donado expressed the significance of this achievement: “For us it is very important that the university has reached our territory, since we will not have to go to universities, due to the high cost of transportation,” she said.
UNACOM offers approximately 19 National Training Programs (PNF), designed to respond to the specific needs of each community.
Regarding the expansion model, the rector of UNACOM, Jorge Arreaza, stressed that the proposal is based on the community diagnosis.
“Here, the People are diagnosing their realities, identifying the careers offered by the National University of the Communes and this commune is constituted as a nucleus of the university. Sooner rather than later there will be six thousand communes, which will be six thousand centers throughout Venezuela,” he explained.
For his part, the governor of the state of Apure, Wilmer Rodríguez, highlighted the historic nature of the day, since it connects with the vision of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution.
“This is a moment that Commander Chávez dreamed of. Today, the National University of the Communes arrived, knocking on the door of those peasants who do not have the opportunity to go out to the city to do their university studies,” he said.
With this application, the community members of Apure begin to chart a new route for local development, where higher education becomes a direct tool for territorial transformation.
