In order to help businesses after the earthquakes that occurred on June 24, the Venezuelan Banking Association (ASOBANCA) reported that they will exempt fees associated with point-of-sale operations in the state of La Guaira for 90 days.
The coastal entity was one of the most affected by the double earthquake; however, of the 12,300 private banking outlets installed in La Guaira, approximately 40% are processing commercial transactions.
ASOBANCA noted that “this figure shows the magnitude of the impact on commercial infrastructure, where businesses suffered severe damage, remain inaccessible or are in the process of reopening, and establishes the great challenge for the coming days and months: to ensure that this percentage increases progressively as the area progresses in its recovery and stabilization.”
They reported that natural and legal persons in the affected areas can contact their bank through digital or face-to-face customer service channels for the review of credit conditions or guidance on these measures.
