On April 28, 2010, Commander Hugo Chávez created his Twitter account, @chavezcandanga, becoming the president, at that time, with the most followers on this platform.

“Hey, how are you? I showed up as I said: at midnight. I'm going to Brazil. And very happy to work for Venezuela. We will win!!” , Commander Chávez wrote his first message.

A few hours after joining Twitter, he gathered more than 18,000 followers, revolutionizing the 2.0 platform.

“I confess that I don't know the name Chavezcandanga, almost anyone knows that, I think I'm going to take a dive here, I didn't like it at first, and when that night, I remember that we were going on a trip to the South, Tareck and Diosdado told me, no, it's already out, Chavezcandanga is already here. Because I said it was going to be Candanga, it was like joking, wasn't it? And then they come and throw the thing and they put Chavezcandanga on it, and I said, but how are they going to give it that name, I don't know what else, and I don't know what else; and they said, no, but you can change the name. And I said, no, leave it that way now, and I sent the first message that night, and look how it hit, it really became candanga,” said the Commander through a telephone contact on April 28, 2012.

The Commander stated that he used this social network as a tool to have closer contact with his people and to dismantle the opinion matrices of national and international media. The account currently has more than 3,800,000 followers.
