Barrio Adentro Deportivo: Guarantee of health to the people through the overcrowding of sports

On July 31, 2004, Commander Hugo Chávez created the Barrio Adentro Deportivo Mission, with the objective of promoting discipline and values to raise health levels and improve the quality of life of the Venezuelan population.

“Deportes en Barrio Adentro was born on July 31, a sport for everyone, for life, for health, and for the revolution, a revolutionary and Bolivarian embrace for everyone,” said the Commander from the Teo Capriles Velodrome, El Paraíso, in Caracas.

This social policy encompasses several essential aspects: physical activity for children and young people, as well as for the elderly, people with disabilities and pregnant women. It also provides technical advice in Bolivarian Schools and promotes the training of promoters and the expansion of sports.

This Mission promotes the practice of 12 disciplines, including: athletics, boxing, volleyball, handball, chess, judo, taekwondo and karate, among others.
