On June 29, 1919, José Gregorio Hernández, the doctor of the poor, died while trying to cross a street in La Pastora, in Caracas.

It was Sunday at noon, the doctor was leaving the pharmacy and going down the sidewalk, near the corner of Amadores, he was crossing a tram, but he didn't notice the vehicle behind him and he hit him, causing his skull to fracture, so he died instantly.

José Gregorio Hernández was born in the town of Isnotú, Trujillo state, on October 26, 1864. His life was at the service of science, faith and helping others.

On January 16, 1986, he was declared venerable by Pope John Paul II, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, a Venezuelan doctor who stood out for his humanity and his dedicated work to provide care for the poorest, an action that made him worthy of being adored by a people that, with deep faith, prays for the health of the most dispossessed.

After her death, she was associated with all kinds of medical miracles, but the decisive one for her beatification was the case of the girl Yaxuri Solorzano, who was fatally shot in the head in March 2017 with little chance of life. However, her mother's faith entrusted the girl's health to Doctor José Gregorio and the girl, a few days after her surgery, recovered completely, without sequelae.

After several processes carried out by the Bolivarian Government in conjunction with the Catholic Church, on April 30, 2021, the doctor of the poor was beatified.
