Bolivarian Government activated new ophthalmic operating rooms at the Miguel Pérez Carreño Hospital

The National Government put into operation two operating rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology in the ophthalmology service of the Miguel Pérez Carreño Hospital, located in Caracas, with the purpose of providing a timely response to the high demand for eye surgery in the national territory.

The activity was led by the Minister of Health, Carlos Alvarado, who said “This task, which we started today at the Miguel Pérez Carreño Hospital, we had already started it at the Domingo Luciani Hospital. We already have supplies to operate 15,000 eyes for patients who are on the waiting list.”

According to a press release, during the opening day, which was attended by the head of the ophthalmology service, Dr. Marco Tulio Álvarez, and which successfully culminated in the twenty-fourth cataract surgery of the day, the authorities emphasized that the initiative is part of the social care policies promoted through the 1×10 system of Good Governance to settle historical debts in the field of public health.

“We are working with the Good Governance 1×10 waiting lists and we have been progressively reducing the debt we have in cataracts, which is the biggest debt we have in surgical debt at the national level.” said Alvarado.

The equipment includes high-end technological equipment, such as advanced microscopes and phacoemulsifiers, as well as certified supplies such as intraocular lenses and visco-elastic substances, thus guaranteeing resolution capacity not only for the inhabitants of the Capital District, but also for patients from Miranda, La Guaira, Aragua and other states of the country who attend this reference and academic training center.

Finally, the Minister for Health announced the planning of continuous extraordinary days and the plan to soon incorporate new specialized equipment to promote care in the retinal area, thus consolidating permanent and excellent facilities at the service of the Venezuelan people.
