The general secretary of the
United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV),
Diosdado Cabello Rondón, assured that the nation does not “need” to be in the International
Criminal Court (ICC).
The leader
pointed out that this organization allows “many crimes in the world” without
this instance saying “anything”, for this reason “we don't need to be there, in
the International Criminal Court”.
In addition, he indicated
this decision is not new, “a long time ago we were about to leave, but a
long time ago, then the decision had been taken and now we are materializing it”. He also
emphasized that the reasons for this exit respond to the “constant attacks that have been made
since that instance against our country, against our people; unfounded
allegations and we therefore take advantage of all the disaster that they have
there and we get out of it, because it is a real disaster”.
Finally,
he recalled that “this is how it was when we left the OAS
(Organization of American States). We withdrew from the OAS and then the OAS
kept saying that we were part of the OAS and from time to time they declare something stupid and we will continue to
move forward.”
