On September 24, 2009, in a memorable speech to the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York, the United States, the Supreme Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Commander Hugo Chávez, stated that in Latin America the Revolution of the masses is emerging and North American imperialism will not be able to stop it.

“Nothing and no one can stop the great South American, Latin American and Caribbean Revolution. I believe that the world should support it. The United States should support that Revolution, Europe should support that Revolution because that Revolution is the beginning of the path to the salvation of this planet, to the salvation of the human species threatened by capitalism, by imperialism, by war, by hunger,” said Chávez

Commander Chávez noted that during the 20th century, U.S. governments and elites did not allow the people of Latin America and the Caribbean to “build their own destiny, they didn't allow us to.”

However, he said that “this century is our century, this century in Latin America and the Caribbean we will build our own path and no one can avoid it. Imperialism, imperialism, imperialism has to end,” he emphasized.
