On September 20, 2006, in a speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Commander Hugo Chávez denounced the attempts of the United States (USA) to impose its global hegemony.

“Yesterday the Devil came here, yesterday the Devil was here, in this very place. This table where I had to speak still smells of sulfur (...) Yesterday ladies, gentlemen, from this very rostrum the President of the United States, whom I call 'The Diablo', came here speaking as master of the world...”, said the Commander, reaffirming his anti-imperialist character.

In this regard, Chávez criticized what he described as a scheme of domination, exploitation and looting led by the US government, which he accused of seeking to consolidate a “world dictatorship”.

For this reason, he called on the Peoples of the world to resist the imposition of models of domination and to defend sovereignty and self-determination against hegemonic powers.
