From El Tigre, Anzoátegui state, the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, called on all journalists to continue fighting for ethics and truth.
During the Aló Presidente #195, on June 27, 2004, he congratulated all the journalists in their day and asserted that there are excellent professionals, however, some owners of media outlets, for a long time, have come through pressure, blackmail and corruption, lending a dense dark layer to Venezuelan journalism.
“At the same time I congratulate Venezuelan journalists; we wish for a true journalist clinging to ethics, truth and respect for opinion and for the most diverse opinions,” he insisted.
In this regard, he quoted the Liberator Simon Bolivar: “Whoever abandons everything because he is useful to his country loses nothing, and earns what he dedicates to him...”
“Today more than yesterday and more than ever, I continue to call on the Venezuelan people to organize, to unity, to the offensive for the Homeland . We cannot forget who our opponents are, we cannot forget what they have done, nor naively think that they have already forgotten about coups, sabotage, paramilitaries, interventionism,” he said.
