On May 26, 2002, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, called for dialogue, stressing that the People of Venezuela want to live in peace.
“I take this opportunity to insist on dialogue (...) The call continues to be for debate, for dialogue to move forward, for peace, for the reconciliation of the country (...) The people want peace and the military want peace, the government wants peace; because here there will be peace, here there will be no civil war,” he said during his Hello President No. 105 from the state of Lara.
He reaffirmed that the doors to dialogue were open to all sectors, despite the fact that some continued their efforts to destabilize the country in its obsession with removing Chávez.
“I have said it many times and I say it again, 500 years will pass here under this sky, 500 years will pass in this Barquisimeto and our grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren will continue to study all this that is happening here, and there will be the judgment for future generations: the bad examples on the one hand so that those children who are already studying, those people who are being born today, and the good examples for them to follow, to multiply like good trees,” he said.
