Chávez the man who planted himself in the heart of the Fatherland

The Eternal Commander, Hugo Chávez, was born on July 28, 1954 in Sabaneta, Barinas state, where he grew up with his paternal grandmother Rosa Inés.

A fan of painting, reading and mathematics, his childhood spent happily between street games, baseball, his greatest passion, and the sale of his grandmother's milky candies, popularly called “spiders”.

He graduated from the Army School of the Venezuelan Military Academy with a degree in Military Sciences and Arts, specializing in Engineering, with a terrestrial mention, from where he graduated with the rank of second lieutenant, on July 5, 1975.

As founder of the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement 200 (MBR-200), touched by the pain left by the massacre of El Caracazo on February 27, 1989, he led the civic-military rebellion of Operation Zamora on February 4, 1992, aimed at leading Venezuela to a better destiny. The “For Now” split the story in two and the country experienced hope for its transformation towards 21st Century Socialism.

For this fact, Chávez served a two-year sentence and was pardoned by President Rafael Caldera on March 27, 1994. He created his own political party as an electoral machine: The Fifth Republic Movement (MVR), which brought him to power by popular vote on December 6, when he was elected President of Venezuela with 56.5% of the votes. He assumed power on February 2, 1999 and swore, under the Constitution of 1961, to refound the Republic to rebuild the Homeland.

Commander Chávez was re-elected as president for the periods 1999-2001; 2001-2007; 2007-2013 and 2013-2019.

During that period, he carried out profound social transformations, creating a System of Missions and Great Social Missions to vindicate those excluded from education, health, nutrition, culture and sports. He dedicated his days to refounding the Homeland, to disseminating the country's values and Bolivarian thought. Chávez became Homeland.

Nowadays it is impossible to think about him and let go of the positive changes that have occurred in the country after his appearance on the political stage. He loved the Fatherland, his homeland, like few others. Broken arm in arm, he always fought for respect for sovereignty, rejected foreign interference, especially the Yankee, and above all else he loved the national tricolor.
