On December 6, 1998, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, called for national unity to build together the new Homeland.
“Now that they have elected me president of the Venezuelans, I ask for your help because only the union can open the way to the salvation of Venezuela for us. I need them all united, and that is what I call the union of all (...) All of us, let's unite and we will be invincible. I call them. We are now going to pave the way for a new Venezuela,” said the Commander from the Ateneo de Caracas after winning the presidential elections.
He also confirmed that he was in command of the People of Venezuela. “Here I am, at your command, forever, for all the days that remain in my life. An immense Bolivarian hug to all of you. Now, as president of Venezuelans, as president of the next century, of the good homeland, of the new homeland, of the beautiful country,” he stressed.
