During broadcast No. 339 of the program Aló Presidente, broadcast from the Miraflores Palace on September 13, 2009, Commander Hugo Chávez warned about the advance of drug trafficking, its global consequences and the risk of “social chaos”, in addition to “collective madness” in a society with such levels of consumption tall as in the United States (USA).
During his speech, the Supreme Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution questioned the role of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). “The DEA was not organized by the United States to put an end to drug trafficking, but to regulate and conduct it, to assure the population of the United States that what some people already consider, a drug for a disease and also the issue of finance, as well as the issue of finance,” he stressed.
He also pointed to Colombia as the “world's leading exporter of drugs”, an activity that generates “billions of dollars a year”, of which Venezuela is a victim. He also drew a parallel with Afghanistan, where, he said, drug production skyrocketed “like a rocket” after the US-led invasion.
