The People's Republic of China reported that it
will send emergency material, worth 100 million yuan (about
14.7 million dollars), to Venezuela to support rescue and
reconstruction efforts, following the earthquakes that occurred last Wednesday afternoon, June 24.
According to information from Venezolana de
Televisión, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, specified that the
supplies will be sent to the South American country as soon as possible and that they are in addition to the direct financial aid already provided previously.
He also noted that the Asian nation
has provided Venezuela with satellite images of the affected areas, in order
to support disaster response efforts.
“China is willing to continue providing more support to Venezuela, in accordance with the evolution of the situation on the ground and the needs derived from the disaster,” he said, adding that Chinese companies in the country and community associations have provided engineering machinery and basic medical equipment for rescue operations, in addition to organizing rescue teams that actively participate in search efforts.
