On June 14, 2006, from the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, assured that the rifle is not only a weapon, it is like a sword.

“You have to love your rifle, a real soldier loves his rifle like a boss loves his sword, a commander loves his sword; a lot has been written about swords, which have a soul, that they have a spirit, and also as a weapon the rifle must have a spirit, and it is precisely of a great anti-imperialist leader and a great warrior ,” said Hugo Chávez.

In this regard, he recalled the actions of Field Marshal Nguyen Giap, the great leader of the Vietnamese people in the anti-imperialist struggle first against France and then against the United States, the great architect of the anti-imperialist victory against the North American invasion.

“It's important, gentlemen chiefs and officers, as was said before: bosses and officers, the conscience, the individual awareness of each of us, of what we are defending,” he stressed.

He also stressed that conscience, that powerful weapon, the most powerful that a soldier can have is the homeland conscience, and we have to help every day to give birth to that consciousness when there isn't one, and to strengthen that awareness when it already exists.
