On December 31, 2007, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, emphasized that as President of the Republic he signed the Amnesty Law to confirm that the Bolivarian Government has always committed to peace in Venezuela.

“I am currently signing the decree of the Amnesty Law that we have been working on for a few days, because I understand that only the government can do it, and to give one more demonstration that we want here is peace, and we want there to be a strong ideological and political debate, but in peace,” said the Operative Emmanuel broadcast of Venezolana de Televisión during a contact.

In this regard, he stressed that this decree granted amnesty to those who participated in the coup d'etat in 2002, as well as to those who committed acts of violence, among others.

“Hopefully it will be well received by the sectors that could continue to commit us to the paths of violence, of destabilization,” he said, calling on institutions and the people to practice applying the three R's: Revision, rectification and reinvigoration.
