Delcy Rodríguez: Jorge Antonio Rodríguez was an upright politician

The President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, led this Saturday the commemoration ceremony for the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, held in the General Cemetery of the South.

During the activity, he highlighted the legacy of the young student leader and his validity in Venezuelan political history.

“Today we commemorate and remember the planting of Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, a young Venezuelan, a student leader, an upright politician,” he said.

The president pointed out that the thinking and action of the young leader “transcend when the decades go by,” and that Venezuelan youth maintain an ethical and moral reference in him. “Born of the humble people of Venezuela, he fought for the economic and social transformation of the country, had a profoundly nationalist and socialist thinking and set a course for the future,” he said.

Rodríguez recalled that every year, for five decades, family members and relatives have come to the General Cemetery of the South to pay homage. “Every year we wear a flower, but every day that flower grows in our hearts and in our awareness of building a better country,” he said.

He added that the ideas of Venezuelan heroes, heroines and martyrs “mark a democratic, peaceful and prosperous future for our people,” leaving behind extremism and fascism that, he pointed out, caused damage to the country during puntofixism.
