On April 9, 2013, the four was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation because of its authentic value of Venezuelanity and its presence in the numerous musical events in the various regions of the national territory.

This sonorous wooden body is the rhythmic and melodic basis of the genres that identify and accompany traditions, festivities, parties and other traditional expressions of the country.

The Cuatro became the musical instrument that is played in almost all Venezuelan musical and folk genres such as bagpipes and Zulian dances, calypso, carols, aguinaldos, parrandas, galerón, polo, jota, malagueña, waltz, passage, guasa, merengue, cannonera music, peasant music, double step, fulía, tonada, polka, orchid rhythm, diamond and in the emblematic joropo, which makes it the national cultural symbol of national musical expressions, according to cultural sources.
