The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) began deploying more than 15,000 soldiers in the states of Táchira and Zulia to reinforce Operation Lightning of Catatumbo and protect our borders, said Defense Minister G/J Vladimir Padrino López.
Through a video posted on his Instagram account, he explained that the military will be deployed from Castillete (Zulia) to Táchira, securing about 851 kilometers of the 2,219 that make up the border line with Colombia.
“There's going to be a major deployment. There will be an air corridor, air resources, helicopters, listening, surveillance, intelligence, exploration,” he said, while stressing that 60 Rapid Reaction Units (URRA) will also be deployed for combat, 30 in each state, each composed of 250 men.
In the same way, he indicated that for this deployment there will be drones for different missions; citizen service points; exploration and surveillance points; river routes with marine infantry through all the rivers, especially in the Catatumbo that flow into the Gulf of Venezuela; naval patrols in Lake Maracaibo; naval patrols in the Gulf of Venezuela and larger ships higher up, to the north, in our territorial waters.
“This is a very quick planning since we know the territory, we know the geographical conditions and we know the conditions and characteristics of terrorist, armed and drug trafficking groups that operate on the border and that intend to move to Venezuelan territory,” he said, while stressing that this deployment of means is carried out following the instructions of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
