The Venezuelan film “The New Fish That Smokes”, directed by filmmaker and actor Luis Fernández, is part of the Latin American Feature Film Competition of the 41st edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, in Argentina, where it will compete for the Golden Astor.

The festival, which runs until November 15, will host the international premiere of this production, inspired by the film “The Fish That Smokes” (1977), by renowned Venezuelan director Román Chalbaud.

The feature film features performances by Mimí Lazo and Jorge Reyes, among other figures of national cinema, and participates in one of the main film exhibition spaces in Latin America.

The production's presence at the festival is supported by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC) and represents an opportunity to project Venezuelan artistic and technical work on international stages.

As part of the activities related to the legacy of the original work, a 4K resolution screening of “The Smoking Fish” was recently held at the National Cinematheque, located in the Museum of Fine Arts, with extensive public attendance
