Find out what is the only route enabled in the Waraira Repano after earthquakes

The Minister for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez, reported that access to the Waraira Repano National Park is being kept under preventive restrictions after several movements of land and plant mass generated by recent earthquakes in the country.

Rodríguez explained that these geological movements, known as active slopes, left the earth exposed to the elements, an instability that is accentuated by constant aftershocks, especially in the basins and headwaters of the rivers that border Caracas.

“With regard to the accesses to Waraira, we had some displacements, especially of vegetable mass. When the earth is exposed to the elements, as they begin to appear, this is what geologists call active slopes. In other words, a certain degree of movement of land masses begins, of land masses,” he said, noting that for this reason, passage along traditional routes such as the Spanish Way and the main road from Cotiza to Galipán was restricted.

The minister indicated that, of the entire road system in the Caracas lung, the Sabas Nieves trail is the only one that is currently suitable and authorized for regular recreational and sports activities, with a limit of ascent allowed only to the park ranger post.
