Francisco Garcés: Homes at a red light will not be demolished automatically

This Wednesday, August 5, the president of the Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability, Francisco Garcés, reaffirmed that homes evaluated and identified at a red light do not mean that they will be demolished.

“The houses that are labeled in red are because their condition poses a danger to enter them, it does not mean at any time that they are going to be demolished,” he said from the parish of Santa Rosalía in Caracas.

In this regard, he indicated that for this reason a second inspection is carried out, in which the degree of damage to the building is determined and then the decision is made whether it will be demolished or not.

“The good news is that of the almost 9,000 that exist, less than 10% have to be demolished; the vast majority are houses or infrastructures that, although they have been structurally affected, there are techniques to be repaired, so we have already prepared a manual for home repair,” he said.

He pointed out that this manual, which already exists in the Venezuela Renace Plan, will also be taken to the mayors so that they can follow the technical guidelines for wall repairs and minor and larger structural repairs.

“So that building that has a red label does not mean that it will be demolished, we are going to begin the second phase of inspections, which will determine the forms of repair that these structures will carry,” he said.
