This Monday, August 4, the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) celebrates its 88th anniversary of being founded on a day like this in 1937 at the behest of President Eleazar López Contreras, with the initial purpose of maintaining public order and the protection of Venezuelan borders.

Originally conceived as the National Guard (GN), it was with the Constitution of 1999 that it acquired its constitutional rank and incorporated the Bolivarian value into its name, this being decisive in the spirit and soul of its function.

Honor is our motto, it is the motto that has accompanied this distinguished institution since its inception, whose vision is to provide permanent service to the Venezuelan people, in obedience and guarantee of what is enshrined in the Constitution and the other laws of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with a universal projection.

On several occasions, Commander Hugo Chávez highlighted the work of the GNB and its commitment to the Bolivarian people and values, stressing that this institution “is charged with a set of signs of the new, unmistakable signs of the process of change, of the revolutionary, democratic process that is under way in Venezuela and that, like any true Revolution, is the birthplace of the new.”

This August 4th, we celebrate the courage, honor and commitment of our glorious Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), always at the service and defense of the Venezuelan people.
