Guárico: They hold the first Conversation of Donkeys and Burriquitas

The history and cultural value of the Burras and Burriquitas of Orituco were discussed during the first discussion dedicated to this traditional demonstration, held in the José Tadeo Monagas municipality, Guárico state.

Cultivators and researchers shared experiences about the origin of this popular expression and its importance as part of the region's identity. Among the participants were Yaury Avilés and Betty Aguilar, from the Los Ramones Foundation, who presented historical aspects of tradition.

During the activity, Francisco “Mocho Laya”, patrimonial cultor of the La Playera sector, was also honored, who last year received the “Burriquitas de Oro” order granted by the Legislative Council of the state of Aragua. The cultor highlighted the meaning of the burriquita as an expression of identity, resistance and collective memory, in addition to the need to transmit it to new generations.

The meeting was organized by the Directorate of Culture of the Mayor's Office of José Tadeo Monagas together with the Movement of Donkeys and Burriquitas of Orituco, as part of the preparatory activities for the II National Meeting of Donkeys and Burriquitas of Orituco.

The national event will take place on Saturday, September 26 and will bring together more than eight delegations, as part of the festivities of Saint Michael the Archangel. The previous agenda also includes workshops dedicated to the craftsmanship of these traditional figures.
