On September 11, 2010, Guillermo García Ponce died, a journalist, politician and writer who defended the causes of the people, promoting socialist and communist thinking, which he defended with tenacity and loyalty throughout his life.
He fought the ignominy of puntofixism, so he was imprisoned along with other revolutionary leaders in the San Carlos Barracks, from where he led the spectacular escape through a 28-meter-long tunnel, which he said took three years to build.
Loyal to the Bolivarian Revolution, he stood out for his defense of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, to whom he always professed his appreciation and respect as the leader of this process that is still in force and was born out of the struggles waged by revolutionaries such as García Ponce.
Today, 15 years after its planting, Venezuelans honor the memory of those who will always be remembered as a militant of the truth and a faithful defender of the cause of the peoples
