Head of State commemorated José Gervasio Artigas's 261st birthday

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, commemorated this Thursday the 261st birthday of “José Gervasio Artigas, one of the great Liberators of South America, a firm, courageous and capable man, an undisputed leader, a beacon of hope for free peoples”.

Through his Telegram channel, the head of state pointed out that Gervasio “I always bring up the thought of the Liberator of the Oriental Band of Uruguay, he left us a doctrine of what it is to be rebellious and to love his land, his people and his right to the future.”

His famous phrase: “We have nothing to expect but from ourselves”, is a cry of dignity and freedom that comes from the depth of that South America that, 200 years ago, rose and triumphed against the current empire, he added.
