Head of State commemorates the planting of María Teresa del Toro: The Liberator never forgot his first love

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Monday the 221st anniversary of the physical departure of Liberator Simon Bolivar's wife, María Teresa del Toro.

“221 years ago, the young Simon Bolivar lost his beloved wife María Teresa del Toro, who left this world leaving a deep sadness in him, swore never to marry again and he fulfilled it, the Liberator never forgot his first love and that's why we don't forget her either,” said the head of state through his X account.

María Teresa del Toro y Alayza was the daughter of Bernardo Rodríguez del Toro y Ascanio, a native of Caracas, and Benita de Alayza y Medrano, a native of Valladolid, Spain. She was born in Madrid on October 15, 1781 and died in Caracas on January 22, 1803.
