The Ecuadorian province of Manabí remains in a state of emergency due to heavy rainfall resulting from the El Niño phenomenon, which caused floods, damage to infrastructure and failures in public services in various sectors.

In this sense, in addition to the social effects, there are risks to aquaculture activity. A report by the National Aquaculture Chamber (CNA) warned that around 110,000 hectares of shrimp pools could be compromised by recent floods, affecting production in the area.

In addition, the effects caused by El Niño transcend the province of Manabí. Official reports confirm that the storm is affecting several Ecuadorian provinces, where floods, evacuations and failures in basic services increase the vulnerability of many communities.
