Heavy rains recorded this Sunday affect six municipalities in Táchira

The heavy rainfall recorded in the last few hours of this Sunday, August 23, affected the municipalities of Junín, San Cristóbal, Cárdenas, Francisco de Miranda, Sucre and García de Hevia in the state of Táchira, according to the Latest News portal.

It points out that in the municipality of Junín, the road that leads from San Cristóbal to Rubio at the height of the Puente de Oro sector was flooded due to constant rainfall and the accentuation of existing geological faults in the area.

Regional authorities have been working for weeks on the refurbishment of this road section, however, to date the rehabilitation work has not been completed.

In San Cristóbal, the increase in the flow of the Torbes River caused the collapse of the road in the Sabaneta sector, on the old road to the plain, causing the interruption of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The situation puts nearby houses and the main pipeline of the Táchira Regional Aqueduct at risk, which carries water to the municipalities of Córdoba and Torbes, according to information provided by residents of the community.

In addition, in the municipality of Cárdenas, the access road to the community of El Torbes collapsed, aggravating the structural collapse of the road and landslides. Residents of the area asked the competent authorities to address the situation affecting hundreds of families because it is the only way to access the sector.

Between the municipalities of Francisco de Miranda and Sucre, there were landslides of rocky material on the road leading from San José de Bolívar to San Pablo, which limited vehicle passage through the area. Local authorities are carrying out clearing work to restore traffic to the site.

Likewise, in La Fría, capital of the García de Hevia municipality, several houses were flooded after heavy rains over the weekend.

The authorities recommended that the population exercise caution due to the continued rains in the region.
