Honduras: Those involved in assassination and coup plans arrested

The attorney general of Honduras, Joel Zelaya, reported that citizens Arcadio López Estrada, Perfecto Jesús Enamorado Paz and Antonio David Catán Rivera were captured for being involved in the attack against former president Manuel Zelaya and a coup against the current president, Xiomara Castro.

“They are formally charged with the crimes of terrorism and attempted murder as established in the Criminal Code,” for a conspiracy of criminal groups, said the Honduran prosecutor.

The head of the Public Ministry stated that the conspiracy was aimed at paralyzing the State, altering the constitutional order and jeopardizing social peace and democracy itself. “In other words, that the general elections of 2025 are not held,” he said.

The attempted attack against the former Honduran president is not an isolated event, but is part of a larger plan that seeks the early departure of the current government, headed by Xiomara Castro and, thus, to prevent the holding of the general elections to be held on November 30.
