Attracted by the imposing Sultana of Caracas, on January 3, 1800, scientists Alejandro Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland carried out what would be the first ascent by European scientists to the top of Waraira Repano.

The journey, in which the young Andrés Bello, who was 19 years old, also participated, lasted at least three days until he reached the “Silla de Caracas”, an area named after the shape it has as a result of the convergence of the Western peaks 2,480 meters high and the Eastern peaks of 2,640 meters.

After completing this expedition, Bonpland and Humboldt left for the Tuy Valleys, to continue their studies on the biodiversity of the Venezuelan territory.
